This page forms part of the Subscription & Billing Terms, which incorporate it by reference, and its numbered clauses are binding on us in the same way theirs are.

1. Summary

1.1 You may cancel Bao Budget yourself, at any time, in about three clicks. We will not require you to sit through a retention offer, a retention interview, or a set of questions first.

The complete cancellation path is:

Settings → Cancel subscription → Confirm cancellation.

1.2 There are no retention offers standing between you and the cancellation button.

1.3 One qualification. Cancelling happens in Bao Budget itself. If it fails, Manage billing opens the Stripe billing portal, which can also cancel. If neither works, emailing us is the remaining way to cancel (§2.4).

2. How to Cancel

2.1 The cancellation path.

  1. Sign in to Bao Budget — on the web at https://app.baobudget.com. On a mobile device, the app's Account settings row opens the same page in your phone's browser.
  2. Open Settings.
  3. Select Cancel subscription.
  4. Select Confirm cancellation. Bao Budget confirms the cancellation and states the date your access ends.

Changed your mind? Before that date, select Resume subscription in the same place. The subscription continues as it was — you are not repurchasing it and the price does not change.

2.2 You may cancel by the same means you used to subscribe. You subscribed through a web browser, and you cancel through a web browser.

Manage billing — also in Settings — opens our Stripe billing portal, where you can cancel as well, and where you update your card and download your invoices.

Purchases Through an App Store

2.3 Bao Budget does not sell subscriptions through the App Store or Google Play today. If that ever changes, you would cancel that subscription in that store's own subscription settings rather than here.

If Cancelling in the App Does Not Work

2.4 If Cancel subscription fails and Manage billing will not open either, that is a defect on our side, and you should not be prevented from cancelling because of it. Email support@baobudget.com with the subject "Cancel my subscription" and we will cancel it for you within 10 business days of receiving your email.

3. Effect of Cancellation

3.1 Your subscription stops renewing, and your card is not charged for it again.

3.2 Your access ends at the end of the period you have already paid for, not at the moment you cancel. If you cancel on day 3 of a month you have paid for, you retain full access until day 30, at which point access ends. Nothing is prorated and nothing is refunded.

3.3 Cancellation is not deletion. Your account and your data remain. If you return, you resubscribe and resume where you left off.

3.4 If you also want your data deleted, that is a separate process: use account deletion (Settings → Account → Delete account). Deleting your account also ends your subscription. Deletion requires your email address, the word DELETE, and a second factor. Deletion cannot be undone.

3.5 If you want a copy of your data first, export it before you delete: Settings → Account → Export data.

4. Refunds

4.1 Subscription charges are non-refundable. There is exactly one exception, and it is set out below (§4.4).

We do not refund:

  • part of a period you have already started — except where you reject a material change to the terms (§4.4), which is the one case that is refunded;
  • a subscription you used through the period and cancelled at the end of it;
  • a renewal that was processed because you had forgotten about it — cancelling stops the next charge, it does not reverse the last one, and every renewal is preceded by an email containing a cancel link (§5), with a receipt following every charge;
  • a period during which you did not open the app.

4.2 Free trials do not raise a refund question at all. If you cancel a trial before its end date (Subscription & Billing Terms §4), you were never charged, so there is nothing to refund. If a trial ends early because it was not validly granted (Subscription & Billing Terms §4.2), your paid subscription begins on that day and the first charge is taken — the refund terms in this section apply to that charge as they would to any other.

4.3 We will still correct a mistake. If you were charged twice for the same period, or charged after your subscription had already been cancelled, that is a billing error on our side — email us and we will correct it and return the money that should never have been taken.

Rejecting a Material Change to the Terms

4.4 Terms of Service §22 permits you to reject a material change to the agreement. Two protections apply.

First, the change waits. A material change takes effect at your next renewal, never during a period you have already paid for. If you do not accept a change, cancel before that renewal: the period you already paid for runs to its end, on the terms that applied when you paid, and you are not charged again. Nothing is prorated and nothing is refunded.

Second, where it cannot wait, we refund you. If a material change ever has to take effect during a period you have already paid for — for a legal or security reason we cannot defer — and you reject it, we refund the unused portion of that period, pro rata. That is an express exception to the "part of a period you have already started" provision above.

4.5 This is the only refund we promise as a matter of policy. See Subscription & Billing Terms §6.3 and §8.2, and Terms of Service §22.

4.6 Nothing here takes away rights you have under consumer law, and nothing here prevents you from raising the charge with your card issuer.

4.7 How to notify us: email support@baobudget.com, or simply cancel in the app before your renewal date — cancelling is itself a rejection, and it requires no explanation. If a refund is owed under the second rule above, we will issue it to the card that was charged within 10 business days.

5. Notices Before We Charge You

5.1 We do not send surprise renewals. Before any charge is made, you receive an email — one you can retain, search, and return to — and every one of them contains a cancel link:

  • At least 7 days before a free trial converts into a paid subscription (see Subscription & Billing Terms §4 for the full trial terms).
  • About 35 days before your annual plan renews.
  • Once a year, if you are on the monthly plan, confirming that the subscription is still active.
  • 21 days before any price increase — never fewer than 7, never more than 30 days ahead.
  • A receipt after every charge, including every automatic renewal.
  • An acknowledgment immediately after you first subscribe — separate from the receipt, in a form you can retain, setting out the renewal terms, our cancellation policy, and how to cancel. California's Automatic Renewal Law requires this, and we send it to everyone. Where a free trial applies, the cancellation information reaches you before you pay anything.

5.2 We will never raise your price with only an in-app notice. A price change is sent by email, in advance, with a link to cancel.

5.3 Unsubscribing from Bao Budget's marketing email does not switch these off.

6. Prices

6.1 The prices are stated in one place: Subscription & Billing Terms §1.

6.2 What you pay is also shown to you on the checkout screen before you confirm, and again in the confirmation email, at the amount actually charged.

6.3 Prices are stated in U.S. dollars. Tax may be added at checkout and is shown before you confirm.

6.4 Bao Budget is a paid app with no free tier. A 30-day free trial is currently offered, to new subscribers who add a payment method, and the checkout screen confirms it — with the date it ends and the amount that will be charged — before you enter any card details. The trial converts automatically into a paid subscription at the end of the 30 days unless you cancel first, and cancelling during the trial means you are not charged at all. Trials run one per person and per payment method. The full terms, including what happens to a trial that was not validly granted, are in Subscription & Billing Terms §4.
